How I Fell of the Blogwagon: A Update of Sorts

Regretfully, it has been a few weeks since my last post. While I know that it breaks all good blogging rules to post infrequently, there are just certain times of life that don’t allow for regular updates on anyone of my web outposts.

Thank you for still taking the times still read this blog and stay committed to me for the future. I assure you that I will still provide quality content, biblical insights, pastoral ministry and leadership practices, and preaching tips worth reading. Recently I’ve just not have the time nor the emotional energy to pour out quality content. Instead of putting up posts that would keep the blog roll rolling, I decided to jump off the blogwagon for a little while.  Sometimes when the waves of life crash over you, the only thing you can do is doggy paddle back to the shore and tried to swim out again. Here are a few things that have caused me to leave my blogpost for a while:

1. Being a dad and husband. As you  Knowing my 1st years of parenthood  and marriage, so I needed to pause for a little while to reorient my priorities as a related to my home life. I have an amazing wife and wonderful son who I’ve enjoyed some wonderful fall walks with and simply learning what it means to be a family before our 2nd child comes in February.

2.  I’ve been studying to finish some undergraduate work that’s needed to be wrapped up for some time.  I have the privilege of studying the Pauline epistles, the book of Isaiah, and ancient Greek language right now.  I’m learning wonderful things from all of these classes and surely will share some insights here on the blog. However, after a long day of work at the church, there are times I’ve had to forget the blog and simply get back into my studies, hence the reason for the lack of post.

How to write good content daily: 1000 words by 10:00 AM

After 10 AM, it is rare for me to get any good writing done.

A few days ago I had a conversation with my writer and editor friend about the pace at which I can write in order to stay productive towards my calling to author material. At one point in the conversation he asked “how many word today do you think you can write?” Little did he know that I’d been contemplating this question for some time and tracking my productivity. I confidently answered, “1000 words a day.” I was pleased, although somewhat taken back by his response, “Wow, those thousand words a day! That’s great!”

Truth is, I thought that was half as much as I strive to get on paper each day, but I wanted to underestimate in my average. I’ve made a personal goal for myself that I would write about 2000 words a day. At one point, I was striving to do that towards my current book project, but I soon and that I was not able to write that many words towards one project – it was just unrealistic. However, if I cut back to 1000 words a day toward a book project, that leaves at least 1000 words for everything else.

Writing Spot: Espressole Caffe

Finding this spot was like finding a $100 bill in the street.

The inside of Espressole Caffe! Great atmosphere!

The serendipity of discovering such a great espresso shop brought me more joy than words can express. I guess I had just grown accustom to the corporate coffee chains that surround Denver, and I had lost hope of finding a mind-blowing independent shop. However, the overcast conditions of my coffee world were broken through with the bright hope of fantastic coffee, brewed correctly.

Espressole Caffe is located just off of I-25 and Belleview. It might take you a few minutes to find because there is not a big sign on the highway for the shop itself, and the Landmark shopping center can be a tricky to get to the first time – but it is worth the hunt!

I was initially attracted to this shop because I heard they had a Clover machine (which is a company now owned by Starbucks… but that is for another post at a later time). I knew that if they had a Clover, they must take coffee seriously. Recently they removed their Clover machine but they still excel in their coffee service by providing finely crafted espresso beverages and french press coffee.

The Bloggest Investment

Blogging is more than a hobby—
it is a personal investment.

I was grieved today at the thought of how it has been over a week since my last post. While I’ve been doing a lot of writing for another project, the church, and school, I missed this place. Blogging has become more than a just a way to capture random thoughts; writing a post is one of the greatest tools for my personal growth.

Writing takes what is intangible and puts it in black and white

When I take the time to capture on paper what I’ve been learning, thinking or experiencing, I am allowing surface level learning to create deeper levels of application. Writing something takes what was intangible and puts it in black and white – literally – for me to absorb further and be accountable for the future.

Blogging can be a way of flaunting in front of others what we desire to show off for our own gratification. Or it can be a way to capture our lessons learned for our own benefit – whether someone else reads it or not. So blog away. And if you don’t have a blog, then write. Capture now what needs to be further applied later. It is perhaps the greatest investment you can make in the life you’ve been entrusted.

Why do you blog or write?
